Walk in Philadelphia #1, the Old City and the river, is an unusual self-guided tour to see what is surely one of the most quintessential parts of the city. If you do only one walk, it should be this one as you'll have plenty to do along the way. You won't resist the Old city charm with its hidden alleys and streets full of historical houses, numerous museums and little shops and restaurants. A: Once you've exited the beautifully decorated metro station—in fact, one of the few pleasant ones in the city (!)—head to the ... Visitor Center. You can't miss it; it's a large, modern building that will likely be in front of you, slightly to the left, as you exit the metro. It's part of the Philadelphia National Historical Park. There you'll find information about the city in general and videos about its history, maps of the places to see, a gift shop, and restrooms. This is also where you can book tours of monuments where you can't enter without a guide. After that, cross ... Street and walk along the side of the building that houses the ...l, going toward ...Hall. You can see the ... from the outside and to the left, but if you're willing to wait in line, you'll learn much more about it and get a closer look at it, all for free. Next, cross ...St. and pass under the arches of ... to reach its ever-bustling square. Here too, you can wait in line to visit the building, but this time you'll need to book in advance as it's a mandatory guided tour (but free). Once on ... St., turn left to pass a very serene 18th-century garden where you can sit, then ... Park where you can see the Bicentennial Bell donated by Queen Elizabeth. It looks like the Liberty Bell without the crack and the crowd surrounding it. Across the street, you’ll see the beautiful Greek Revival-style ... building with its Coriander columns. As you pass, you'll also have seen a sign detailing the different types of historic houses you'll find in the neighborhood, and it will allow you to better differentiate them. B: At ... Street, turn right, then right again onto ... Ct., and roughly opposite the gate leading to ...Church, turn left to reach ... Way, passing through ... Court. The architecture here is somewhat austere and modernist, with red brick, but the further you go along ... Way, the more you'll discover the historic character of the old town.
