Walk in NYC #1, the essentials of Upper Midtown, is an unusual 4 miles self-guided tour to see the main attractions of Upper Midtown, on and off the beaten path. It's also the first of my four favorite walks for showing Manhattan to newcomers. It will take you between 2 to 4 hours to complete depending on what you do along the way. 🍿There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. 💕 Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. ✌️NB:
A: Take the metro to ... and once there, find above the main and immense concourse where hurried travelers and nonchalant tourists meet. You have undoubtedly seen it in many films but this time, you are there, and you are undoubtedly hypnotized by the constantly changing spectacle of the human flows which cross it. Don't forget to look at the stars on the ceiling then wander in the adjacent corridors or the food court below, both also lively, before finding an exit towards ... Street. Turn left once on the sidewalk. B: The ... building will be in front of you, to the right. It cannot be visited but you can enter it on the ground floor, and this will give you an idea of the art-deco style that characterizes it and the richness of the materials that were used to build it. Once again raise your head towards the ceiling, this time to admire a fresco! Then exit onto ... Ave and follow it against the flow of traffic until you reach 45th St.; take it to the left to reach ... Ave. Once there, take the Ave on the right. You will no doubt be lost in the flow of pedestrians along it and if you have not already experienced this sensation on 42nd St, it is probably New York as you imagined it! C: Your destination is the ... Center and you will find it on your left after 49th St. but the spectacle of the street, yellow taxis, buildings, and stores, will undoubtedly slow down your progress. At ... Center, a collection of 19 mostly art-deco buildings, find Atlas; in winter, watch people skating or in other seasons, go down to the courtyard to admire the sculptures; go see the giant Legos in a nearby store; climb the tower for a breathtaking view of the city and sit on a reproduction of the metal beam on which workers were photographed eating or chatting above the void; go have a drink at the bar on the 65th floor; finally, take a look at the entrances of the buildings to admire the reliefs or the murals. (The rest is on the pdf...) Ready to explore the city on your own?
