With Walk in NYC # 8, Gramercy, Stuyvesant, Kips Bay, you'll explore a mainly residential part of Manhattan and have a chance to take a ferry at one point if you want to shorten your trip.

This 3 miles unusual self-guided tour is mainly off the beaten track with several variations possible.

Count 2 hours to complete it and along the way, you’ll see a private park and beautiful mansions, second-hand clothing and furniture shops, red-brick buildings and the shores of the East River.

🍰There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is.

❤️ Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone.

😁NB:

  • You can read much more about the general content and philosophy of these walks on the home page and see some comments there too.
  • The excerpt is the beginning of the description (a bit truncated here), after the full map and the useful info about highlights, metros, buses, bikes, restrooms, and so on. 🚇
  • The letters correspond to points indicated on the map, so you always know where you are along the trail or where you're heading.

A and B: At ..., find Park Ave and follow it towards ... St which you will then take on your right.

After ... and before 3rd Ave, you are in Block Beautiful, a collection of houses of different styles but all made with red bricks and decorated according to the taste of their original owners. It was an artists' colony in the 1920s and is still home to celebrities looking for peace and quiet.

C: When you've finished admiring the facades, retrace your steps to take ... towards Gramercy Park.
Surrounded by beautiful Greek, Italian or German Renaissance style buildings, it is also a quiet place away from the crowds. It is only accessible by local residents with a key, but you can still walk around it and dream of being invited in it.

D: Then continue on ... Ave with nice views of the Chrysler Building and turn right on 23rd St.

There are in this street four second-hand furniture and clothing stores that may interest you, one on your left before ... Ave called Housing Works Thrift Shop and intended to help AIDS patients, the others on your right after 3rd Ave.

If only to see a beautiful interior, try the ... Thrift shop, the last in the series, the smallest too, but the one where you will undoubtedly find the most incongruous treasures.

Opposite, you can take a look at the small gallery of the school of ..., it is in its entrance hall.
