Walk in NYC # 15, in Hudson Heights and Washington Heights, goes to a part of Manhattan far from the lights of the city but particularly bright during Fall when the trees change color. It's a 4 miles unusual self-guided tour at the north tip of Manhattan. You will be in sometimes isolated parks, you will cross lively Latino neighborhoods, you will discover a haunted house and see the oldest bridge in the city, between other things. 🧁There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. 💓Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. 👌NB:
A: Your tour can start at the ... subway station on line A: in this case, you will exit the subway by taking an elevator and reach an entrance that will transport you to medieval times. This will also give you a chance to explore ... in detail, on one side to reach The Cloisters and then on the other side to return to Fort Washington Ave. Otherwise, stay on the subway to the ... station to reach The Cloister faster. From the ... subway, head toward the Fort Tryon entrance; go straight on Stan Michels Drive and access Linden Terrace; you'll have views of the Hudson River, the Washington Bridge, and the forested New Jersey Shore. The park is hilly with numerous staircases, granite walls and bridges; you will find several possible paths to reach The Cloisters, the one on the map is only a suggestion. Basically, stay mainly on your left without going down too much otherwise you will have to go back up! The ... is an unusual venue, well suited to housing the Metropolitan Museum's collection of Medieval European art. It was built from medieval buildings purchased in Europe. If you enter it, it is not certain that you will do the rest of the hike so this time, just come and look at it from afar! Once done, turn back but always stay left to return to ... Ave; you will then explore the side of the park that overlooks Fort George and Harlem River in the distance. If you got off at ... station, go and see the Cloisters following the signs then stay to the right of Tryon Park (the way in if you had stopped at 190th St) to reach Fort Washington Ave, you’ll have more views on this side than the other. Once back on the avenue, continue straight until ... St. on your right; then ... Boulevard on your left to W 187th St. on your right. Your destination is ... Ave, a quiet side street overlooking the Hudson River; it will offer you beautiful and new views of the Washington Bridge if the trees are not too high (otherwise you’ll have to climb on the little wall!). At the end, take ... St. then follow Cabrini Boulevard again for a few yards. When you see a staircase on your left, take it. It will be more or less in front of a group of buildings called Castle Village with uniformed doormen guarding the entrance to the apartments. You will reach Pinehurst Ave only to realize that the passage you took was a private passage reserved for Castle Village tenants, but you hadn't seen the sign saying so! (The rest is on the pdf...) It took me years to visit this part of Manhattan, but I enjoyed it the first time I went, and I now enjoy it each time I go. On the main streets, there is always a good Mexican restaurant much cheaper than downtown and more authentic so it's an added bonus.
