Walk in NYC # 14, from Hamilton Heights to Morningside Heights, explores quiet neighborhoods with plenty of different things to do and see that will make you feel like a seasoned New Yorker. It is a 4 miles unusual self-guided tour that will take you about 2.5 hours to complete if strolling and taking photos, much more if you visit the galleries, museums, monuments and churches along the way. 🍰There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. ❤️ Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. 😁NB:
A: Your tour starts at the ... St. subway station and when you exit, go up the street of the same name towards Covent Ave. You will be in the historic Hamilton Heights neighborhood and its rows of brownstone houses of 3 or 4 floors, built around the 1900s. B: When you arrive at ... St., go down to the right to see the Hamilton Memorial: you will not miss it, it is a two-story federal-style house that stands out from the rest of the neighboring buildings. You will learn all about Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States and if you plan in advance, you can even take a guided tour of the Grange (its other name), otherwise it will be a self-guided tour in this old-style house. C: Then retrace your steps and go on ... which you will take on the left to soon see the gates of the City College of New York, an impressive white stone Gothic-style campus. If you can't enter the buildings, you can at least walk in front of them to admire their architecture and the sculptures that adorn them. Once you have reached the more contemporary part of the university, turn right; go up a few steps and pass under the arch to reach a gallery on your right, along ... Ave (the map here is not precise but you will see the way once you get there!). The gallery is dedicated to art relating the Dominican experience in the USA. It seems to be open by appointment only but try your luck! D: Next, turn left when you exit the gallery and left again onto ... Ave. The street is very lively with various Latino and/or Asian stores. Go down it to ... St which you will take on the right to reach the river; you will have to pass under Riverside Drive and the very busy Henry Hudson Parkway. In the distance the USS Baylander. It is a ship dating from the Vietnam era and later used to train helicopter pilots. It was a community museum open for a few hours on weekends before becoming a café restaurant open in season.
