Walk in NYC # 9, bohemian East Village, explores a part of Manhattan that kept some of the hippie and rebel character that made it famous. It's a self-guided 3 miles tour where you'll visit East Village, NoHo East, Alphabet City and Lower East Side. These neighborhoods are now gentrified but you'll see that they still retain what gave them their reputation and charm. 🧁There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. 💓Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. 👌NB:
A & B: Take the subway to ... station et once outside, before going further, admire the sculptures that line this square. They are part of Cooper Union School, a private art school. Then follow ..., (when you are in the square and looking towards Lower Manhattan/the south, this is the street on your left), and you will soon see a building with interesting contemporary architecture: this is the modern part from Cooper Union School. Take a look at its entrance hall with its large winding staircase and ask the guard for directions to the exhibitions open to the public. C: Next, find ... on your left (what the map tells you to do) or, before, the E 6th St if you want to visit the ... Museum, a small arts and crafts museum (there’s an entry fee as there will be in all the museums of this walk). In both cases, you will arrive on the ... which you will take on the right. There are plenty of restaurants and patios here, but look for an alley on your right, just past E 3rd St: if it's open, it will take you to the ... Cemetery, a quiet, secluded spot. However, you will have to read the explanatory panels to be able to imagine what it looked like because the tombs have disappeared. On ... St. which you will then take to the right, you will see a small, incongruous garden which overlooks the marble cemetery. This is the first of many communal gardens you'll see in the East Village. Next, take ... on the left; E Houston St on right; finally, Mott St. on the left. You are looking for the entrance to .... in the NoHo neighborhood. It has the distinction of housing the only catacombs in New York, but you will need to take a guided tour to visit them. In the meantime, you can enjoy its beautiful stained-glass windows and very evocative wooden sculptures. (The rest is on the pdf...) Ready to explore the city on your own?
