Choose Walk in Boston # 6, Castle Island at South Boston, if you want to be quite far from everything and next to the sea. It is a 2 miles self-guided tour that will take you about 1:30 to 4 hours to complete depending on what you choose to do. It's also an easy walk that can also be used for jogging, but you'd better have a car to get there if you don't want to walk a lot more to reach it. 🍧There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. 💚Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. ✨NB:
A: Your walk starts at ... Park, along ... Boulevard and is very simple: you will take the pier that starts there and follow it along ... Bay to ... Park. This means that Castle Island is no longer an island! However, it was until the 1630s when the first fort was built. What makes this walk interesting is that the pier is long and gradually takes you out to sea. B: The round structure (the “Sugar Bowl”) that you will see on your way is a good place to take photos and sit down. You will undoubtedly be upwind; you will see cormorants and the islands of Boston Harbor in front of you; you will also hear the sound of the navigation buoys: it will be as if you were suddenly in the open sea. It is for this feeling that you came because for the rest, the landscape and the pier will remain the same until Castle Island Park. C: Once at the park, you will realize that it is not easy to enter the fort. There are however guided tours on Saturday and Sunday in season, from noon to 3 p.m.; free visits 3 months/year on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to sunset, weather permitting. If you are interested, you will find the timetables on the internet. That said, you are here for something else because the strategic location of the place puts you at the center of a lot of activity; that’s what makes it so charming, besides of course the sight of people of all kinds walking, sunbathing, fishing or dreaming in front of the sea. The waves are noisier, boats of all kinds cruise offshore, you see the merchant port of South Boston and its mountains of various containers; planes come and go overhead and on the runways of Logan Airport; the grass is green and inviting but there are plenty of benches to sit if you prefer something more comfortable.
