With Walk in Boston # 11, Beacon Hill and the surrounding parks, an unusual self-guided tour, you'll explore the "nature" side of the center. You'll go along the Charles River, walk in 2 parks, and finally visit the northern part of Beacon Hill. It can be combined with Walk in Boston # 10 for a complete tour of this area of the city. 🥞There is an excerpt of it below to give you an idea of what it is. ❤️🔥Otherwise, it is available in full for a few $ on Payhip/ImagesVoyagesImpressions in a PDF file that you'll be able to download on your phone. 🎈NB:
A: Your walk begins at the ... metro station. Before you start, take a look at the Liberty Hotel on the right as you look at the river. It occupies a former jail and is now a 4-star hotel. Then find the pedestrian bridge on your left that crosses ... Drive, it will take you to the water's edge. It is named Frances Appleton in memory of the wife of the poet Longfellow who gave his name to the bridge next to it! Once on the Charles esplanade, the city seems far away. You have a view of the river with small sailboats coming and going in season (the Community Boating Center is at this location) and, on the other side, Cambridge. People jog, walk their dogs, read on benches and generally have a much slower pace than in the city center. B: After a while, you will reach the Hatch Shell, a semi-circular auditorium used for outdoor concerts and in particular the 4th of July concert with the Boston Pops orchestra. There are plenty of other free concerts there most weekends and weeknights in summer; however, bring a chair or blanket if you don't want to sit directly on the grass. Next door, you will find a bistro to refresh yourself or eat a sandwich, but it is open in season only. A little further on your right, a small bridge: cross it and go around the island with Fiedler Field in the center to sit on the grass; or go on one of the pontoons to enjoy the sun. Along the way, you will undoubtedly have noticed the Gondolia Di Venezia pontoon with its authentic gondolas imported from Venice. The tours you can rent will of course be on the Charles but certainly romantic all the same! C: Once around the island, take the ... pedestrian bridge; you then exit the Esplanade and return to town. When you get to ..., take ... Street almost in front of you. D: A little further on you will come to the tempting ... Avenue with its central tree-lined path, but today you will go left to enter the ... Garden. (The rest is on the pdf...) Ready to explore the city on your own?
